Godfrey A.

Seasoned, Licensed Tour Guide, BookSerengeti.com

Godfrey A. is one of the seasoned, licensed guides at BookSerengeti.com, and he is happiest down on the southern plains in the calving months. From December to March, when the herds gather around Ndutu and thousands of wildebeest calves drop each day, Godfrey is usually out on the short grass at first light, where the concentration of newborns pulls in lions, cheetahs, and hyenas and the plains turn into one of the most active predator theatres in Africa.

He came up through the long apprenticeship every Tanzanian guide serves, learning to track, to read the plains, and to stay calm and useful when a hunt suddenly unfolds a hundred metres from the vehicle. Years of that have given him an easy, unhurried way with guests, which is part of why he is often the guide we pair with families.

What Godfrey Focuses On

Godfrey guides across the whole park, but two things are especially his. The first is the calving season: the timing of it, where the herds concentrate on the southern plains, and how to position for the predator action without crowding the animals. Because the southern plains sit inside the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, off-road driving is allowed there, and he uses it carefully to get guests the angle without disturbing a hunt.

The second is family safaris. Travelling with children changes how a game drive is run, from the pace to the questions to keeping young ones engaged through the quiet stretches, and Godfrey has a patient, steady manner that suits it well. Parents tend to relax when he is the one at the wheel.

How Godfrey Approaches a Drive

Godfrey’s view is that a good guide does most of the work before the guests even see anything. Reading the tracks, watching the vultures, listening for alarm calls, positioning early: that is what turns a quiet morning into a memorable one. He would rather set up patiently for a sighting he can see building than chase every report on the radio.

The guides on this site are written by Moses C., our veteran guide, and reviewed by Emmanuel Soyala, who owns our MNRT-licensed operation. Godfrey’s part is in the field, turning those plans into the drives our guests remember.
