Moses C.

Operations Manager and Veteran Wildlife Guide, BookSerengeti.com

I’m Moses C. I’ve spent fifteen years in the Serengeti, first behind the wheel of a safari Land Cruiser and on foot behind an armed ranger, and now running the field logistics that keep our trips moving. If you have read the guides on this site, you have already heard my voice: most of them are written from what I have seen out there, season after season.

I came up as a driver-guide, which in Tanzania means you learn everything the hard way. You learn to read tracks in the dust, to tell fresh dung from old, to know which way a lion was heading from the drag of its paw prints. You learn that the freeze-and-stand rule with an angry buffalo is not a paragraph in a brochure, because you have had to stand very still in the dry grass and mean it. Those are the details I try to put into every article, the things a first-timer only learns after they have been out there a few times.

What I Do Now

These days I split my time between guiding and operations. On the logistics side, I handle the parts of a safari that decide whether it runs smoothly: park permits and the 24-hour gate clock, positioning camps in the right sector for where the herds will be, timing the fly-backs, and sorting the hundred small things that come up when you move people around a park the size of a small country.

I still guide when I can, because it keeps me honest. You cannot write useful advice about the Seronera leopards or the Mara crossings from a desk, so I make sure I am out there watching what actually happens rather than repeating what a website said last year.

Why I Write These Guides

Most safari pages online are written to sell, not to help. I write ours the other way round. If a four-day budget trip means too much time in the car, I say so. If no one can promise you a river crossing, I tell you that before you book, because the herds move on the rain, not on your schedule. Honest advice up front makes for a better trip and a happier traveller, and it is how I would want the trip explained to me.

Everything I write here is checked against real fees, real distances, and real seasons, and reviewed alongside Emmanuel Soyala, who owns our MNRT-licensed operation. Between the field side and the ownership side, the guides stay accurate and grounded.

Plan a Trip With Me

Tell me your month and your must-sees, and I will tell you exactly which stretch of the park you should be in and how to build the trip around it.
